Berlin TXL - Last Mile Mobility 2019 | 2020

Type: Main Project | HTW Berlin - 5th Semester

Duration: 20 weeks

Team: Individual project

Berlin TXL - Last Mile Mobility 2019 | 2020 is a collaborative project with BROSE Fahrzeugteile GmbH & Co KG, Berlin Tegel Projekt GmbH, and the Senate Department for Urban Development and Housing. The project aims to address the mobility challenges in the Schumacher Quartier, a visionary neighborhood in Berlin, where traditional cars are not allowed, leading to an improved quality of life but also new everyday challenges. The project seeks to explore innovative solutions for personalized and goods-based mobility in the year 2030, focusing on post-fossil, climate-neutral mobility, access over ownership, shared mobility, digitalization, global mobility, seamless mobility, and managed mobility.

THE SOLUTION

Empowering Urban Mobility Innovations

The project's discovery phase explored future mobility types and fundamental principles such as post-fossil and climate-neutral transportation, access-based models, sharing economy, digitalization, global mobility, and seamless and managed mobility. By identifying the needs of the target users, specifically older adults, including autonomy, competence, popularity, and safety, the project shifted its focus to medical accessories. The aim was to improve the design of a mobile stretcher used for emergency medical transport.

The concept evolved into the "Spineboard EXTENDED," which integrates innovative features such as a self-inflating cushion, a hydraulic joint for stability, collapsible leg support, extendable handles for transport stabilization and comfort, and a user-friendly cushion that inflates using a cartridge.

THE RESULT

Revolutionizing
Patient Transport:
The Extended Spineboard Solution

The "Spineboard EXTENDED" is a versatile solution that can transform into a seat with minimal effort. Its lightweight, self-inflating cushion provides comfortable support for patients and is easy to clean. The hydraulic joint ensures stability, while the variable gripping options offer flexibility in narrow spaces. The extended width of the board allows patients to hold onto it securely. Meeting DIN standards, the Spineboard EXTENDED revolutionizes patient transport by combining the functionalities of a traditional spineboard with innovative features. It provides enhanced stability, comfort, and adaptability for different scenarios. With folding leg support, extendable handles, and a user-friendly cushion that inflates effortlessly using a cartridge, it offers improved transport stabilization and convenience.
